Words of Hope – A symbol of kingdom rule

Words of Hope – A symbol of kingdom rule

By Pastor Rhoda Klain Miller

In Genesis 49 when Jacob was blessing his sons, Judah is spoken of as a “lion’s cub,” from whom the “scepter will not depart.” The scepter is a symbol of kingdom rule and power. This prophecy that Israel’s king would be descended from Judah began with David and ended with Jesus. But you could say it started with

Jesus too! Isaiah wrote: “From the stump of Jesse, a new shoot will grow, a branch that bears fruit. . . . In that day the Root of Jesse will be a banner of salvation to the world” (Isaiah 11). Jesus is not only identified as a descendant of David, but also the source or “root”.

We all come to a point in life when we are cut down like a stump. The hope and promise in Jesus is the same for us today as yesterday. There is a King who want to rule your heart and life who can make something new of broken dreams, betrayals and loss. Trust Him and He will restore you to new heights, just as He gives eagles strength to soar above the tree tops. (Is. 40:31)
