Kingdom Focused

Kingdom Focused

By Edwin Darius

One of the keywords in the gospel of Matthew is the word “kingdom” and the kingdom of heaven is one of the major themes of the book. In his writings, even though Matthew used the term “kingdom of God”, he preferred using “kingdom of heaven” instead.

In this gospel, Jesus is portrayed as the true King of Israel who came down to bring the “kingdom of heaven” to both the Jews and the gentiles.

Jesus made it clear that this kingdom was available to all people. Though there’s the coming of an everlasting Kingdom where God is ruling, Jesus wants His people to be ambassadors of it right now on this earth.Throughout the gospel of Matthew, Jesus teaches us how, saying that the poor in spirit, the merciful, the meek and the peacemakers would be blessed. He went on to say that His people are the light of the world and should love their enemies. Moreover, He says whoever wants to save their life will lose it and that the last will be first. All of His teachings in Matthew are kingdom focused to encourage kingdom living.

We ought to live as if we’re already in the kingdom. When we let Christ rule our hearts, the way that we think, speak and behave will differ from others and empower the expansion of God’s kingdom on earth. Let us remain ambassadors!
