WHEN PRIORITIES COME INTO FOCUS

As the FIFA World Cup draws near, people are finding themselves in different categories. Some are eagerly anticipating the tournament, ready to spend weeks cheering for their favorite teams, hosting watch parties, and even painting their faces in team colors. Others may not be dedicated football fans at all, yet still plan to watch because friends and family are excited to share the experience with them.

While not everyone will be tuning in for the same reasons, the World Cup reminds us of something powerful: global events have a unique ability to both unite and divide us. They bring together people from different backgrounds, cultures, and nations around a common experience, while at the same time highlighting rivalries and differences between us.

And I don’t know about you, but moments like these are not just about celebration, they also become moments of reflection. They make me think about my own priorities, what excites me, what I give my attention to, and what I ultimately build my life around.

Because life has a way of changing quickly. Plans fall apart, expectations go unmet, and the things we once relied on can suddenly disappear. In moments like these, it is easy to wonder where real peace or lasting hope can be found. The good news is that Christian hope is not built on circumstances—it is built on a Person. No matter how much the world has changed, the name of Jesus has remained constant and unshaken. Even in the midst of uncertainty, Christ remains faithful and secure. He sees our deepest struggles, knows our fears, and walks with us through every season of life.

Hebrews 13:8

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.”

God is constantly reminding us that we are a priority to Him. He does this by showing that His grace is greater than our failures, His strength is greater than our weaknesses, and His promises are greater than our doubts. What may seem impossible to us is never impossible for Him.

But then the question gently turns back to us: if God has made us such a priority, is He our priority?

Even in that question, there is hope. We can take heart in knowing that the same God who has carried us this far is more than able to lead us forward. When we fix our eyes on Him, we find hope for today, strength for tomorrow, and a future securely held in His hands.
