TRUST IN UNCERTAINTY

It’s interesting how trust works. In the early stages of life, trust seems almost effortless. Think about how a child instinctively leans on her parents, fully believing that they will provide, protect, and care for her. When I look at my own kids, I see no hesitation, no questioning—just pure, unwavering trust. But as life goes on, that simplicity fades. The reality is, trust can be fragile. All it takes is a moment of disappointment, a broken promise, or a painful experience to shake it. Once broken, trust is much harder to rebuild.

In our relationship with God, trust can feel just as fragile. When life is smooth, when everything seems to fall into place, trusting Him feels almost natural. But when the unexpected happens—when prayers seem to go unanswered, or life takes a painful and confusing turn—that trust can waver. It’s in these difficult moments that our faith is truly tested. The real challenge isn’t trusting God when life is going according to plan; it’s trusting Him when everything feels uncertain, when the ground beneath us seems to shift. Just like a child who must relearn to trust after being hurt, we, too, must relearn how to lean on God when the path ahead is unclear. Even when we don’t understand why things happen, God invites us to trust in His greater plan—a plan that we may not fully see, but one that is always unfolding in His perfect timing.

As it says in Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” This verse reminds us that, even in the most challenging moments, God’s plan is not to harm us but to guide us into a future filled with hope. It’s in this promise that we can find the courage to trust Him, even when life feels uncertain.
