Words of Hope – The Welcome Table

Words of Hope – The Welcome Table

What a year! What a summer! I spent a day in Ottawa recently and saw this amazing table. It’s Canada’s 150th this year and there have been many special events. This was one of them.  20 of Canada’s best chefs (including Vikram Vij of Vancouver fame) were putting on a 6 course meal for 1000 fortunate guests that were able to get tickets back in February. The event was posh and right on Wellington St, across from Parliament.
It was picturesque. — My mind raced. — So many thoughts.
So many mental pictures and imaginations about the Kingdom of God (Rev 21) and the invitation to eat with Jesus, sinners, and saints.
The table, the people, the food, the laughter, the joy, the sadness, the fruition of a vision thousands of years in the making…thousands of years in the making!!!! Some visions take time and immense patience, but they are worth it. That table, and all it represents, is a generative space. It generates real life, light, and love. It generates healing, connection, and relationship. It restores, repairs, and re-creates the vision at the very heart of God.
We want to personally invite you, as members of our church, to another season of welcome at OAC. Our church, with the same hopes and aspirations, longs to create that same generative space. So before anything else happens, we want you to know that we love you and that you matter and that your presence does not go unnoticed.
