“You’re speeding”
“But I’m going with the flow of traffic”
“You’re 20 K over the limit”
“But look at that guy flying past me. They are doing at least 30 over”
“If someone brakes it’ll be a disaster. This shows you aren’t taking extra care for my life”
“If I moved to the far right lane and followed the posted speed I’d be slower than everyone and incite road rage. Do you think that’s safer?”
This same dialogue plays out regardless if I’m driving or he is. It’s easier to break the rules ourselves than witness someone else do it! We feel more comfortable being the one in control. Wrong is wrong even if everyone is doing it and right is right if no one else is doing it. This wisdom in Proverbs 29:25 “The fear of man lays a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is safe” and Jesus cautioned “See that no one leads you astray” (Mat 24.4). Even if that someone is you!
