Words of Hope – Salt and Light

Words of Hope – Salt and Light

By Pastor Peter Qiu

You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again?
Christians are being compared to salt. Just as the value of the salt is its saltiness, so having Christian influence (evangelism) is the value for being a Christian.
There’re several things that I learned from the salt. First, it brings out the good tastes from the food. The salty taste itself is not very appealing, but if you put it in beef, vegetable, or even watermelon, it will bring out their unique flavours more powerfully. Christians should also be able to bring out the flavour out of the lives of other people.
The second thing I learned is that, never put too much salt in one dish. It will be bitterly salty, and may even cause hypertension. Stop forming cliques or silos.
Thirdly, salt, and light alike, exists for the beautification of people’s lives. They have value because they make our lives interesting and colourful. Without salt and light, people still can survive, but who would appreciate a tasteless and dark life?
If the church is a salt shaker, Jesus is commanding us to “shake and speed your salt to all nations.” Make people’s live more colourful and vibrant, “and surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age”
