Words of Hope – An elusive peace

Words of Hope – An elusive peace

By Pastor Rhoda Klein Miller

“Peace on earth” sure seems elusive. Scrolling through any news feed, witnessing road rage, the sounds of sirens, my own insomnia all presented ample evidence this week we live in a far from peaceful world.

How did Jesus bring about the “peace on earth” announced by the angel choir (Luke 2:14)? He taught us to treat each other as we’d like to be treated. He showed us how to love our enemies. He redefined winning as losing, employed his authority to serve and demonstrated power with humility. Imagine if everyone lived by those principles, it certainly would be more peaceful existence. Instead, humanity’s prideful rebellion keeps us separated from God’s love and power. However, it is restored when we accept His forgiveness and salvation. We can sing “Peace on earth and mercy mild, God and sinners reconciled!” Allowing Jesus to heal and restore our broken hearts helps us see people through God’s eyes and want to extend His love to others. Will you take the opportunity today to bring peace to your own heart and to the world?
