Everyone is after health (even in Australia!). The older you get, the quicker you realize that if you don’t have your health (and remember, health is defined holistically as emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual), all of our skills, talents, and treasures, and even some of our memories – quickly fade into insignificance. Life can quickly feel like death.
The Gospel (aka: the Good News that Jesus came to inaugurate) is thick, dense – multifaceted if you will. So when we consider our purpose as a church, as we’ve been doing for the first part of 2017 (Temple to Table; The Medium is the Message) it’s becoming clear that God’s purpose is to heal and save in order to restore health.
This past Saturday night, OAC, Think Green, and Veg Expo co-hosted a screening of “What the Health” right here in our sanctuary and the response (200+ attendees, Q&A, etc) demonstrated this need very clearly in our city. People are hurting, scared, and they want their health. And guess what: God’s calling us to be a part of the Good News, the healing of our streets and lands, our hearts and minds. I can’t wait to see everything God has in store for us.
