The Influence of a Father

The Influence of a Father

By Edwin Darius

Once upon a time, a father and his young child were climbing up a mountain. As they came to a difficult and dangerous place to climb, the father paused for a few seconds to consider which way he should go. Then he heard his child behind him say “Dad; choose the good path, I’m coming right behind you!”
As I was thinking about the influence of Fathers, the verse that came to my mind was Proverbs 20:7 –it says “The righteous man walks in his integrity and his children are blessed after him.” Any parent knows that their children really do observe and copy what ever they do.
Since I am not a father, I can only imagine how much of a blessing it is to be called “father.” And along with this noble title comes big responsibilities. According to a few articles that I’ve read online this week, children that have loving and involved fathers are less likely to have behavioural problems, to be emotionally insecure and struggle with addictions. That shows the power and importance of fathers in the life of children. So today, let’s celebrate and honour them for how special they are to us and to God.
Fathers, stay connected with the Heavenly Father so that His love could be seen through you in spite of your short comings. Continue being a good example for your children and choosing the right paths because in the end, they won’t follow your sermons, nor advice but your example. Happy Father’s Day!
