An Unbreakable Relationship

An Unbreakable Relationship

By Carolina Henriquez

Luna came into Sophie’s life timid and scared. Scared of her new surroundings and timid about who this new human reaching to embrace her. She looks away rejecting what should feel normal: to be loved by someone. Her doubtful eyes say she does not know how to act; should she bite, run away, wag her tail, embrace her warm arms, or reject her?
Weeks go by, and she walks with more confidence. She wags her tail more, follows Sophie like a shadow, cuddles her all hours of the day, whimpers when she is gone for what feels like an eternity, and falls asleep the moment she knows her human is safe and sound.
Months pass by and Luna is finally learning to walk alongside Sophie without dominating her. Things seem fine until they cross paths with a stranger. Sophie thinking things will be fine, sees Luna growling and barking at this human who seems harmless. She tries to get Luna to calm down, but the closer he gets, the louder she becomes. Embarrassed by what she has witnessed her little girl do, Sophie realizes that all Luna is doing is protecting her from potential harm.
A year goes by and the bond between the two of them is unbreakable. Sophie has learned to live with Luna and the thought of losing her is unbearable. She realizes her love for Luna is no longer just a family pet, but her child; a person who deserves to be loved, protected, and cared for.
Just like Luna who learned to trust Sophie unconditionally, our relationship with God develops like this. We begin our walk of faith by learning about His great love. Things seem easy and trust comes naturally, but it is when we are let into the world where we really learn to trust Him unconditionally. And there are moments where we question God’s mercy, the 1300 Indigenous lives who have been dug up or the town of Lytton swiped completely because of mother nature, but like a puppy, we slowly discover that God is present even in the toughest moments, and our faith is restored.
As we continue living with our faith in Jesus, know that God is the northern star and the protector against all evil. Trust in His purpose for your life and allow Him to be in control, just like a puppy who fully trusts your heart is in the right place to help protect and take care of you.
